Several organizational matters and future directions of the association were discussed.
Three Decisions were reached:
A) The formation of a review committee that will oversee the Turkish-ISA panels for 2008 ISA convention in San Francisco by April. As decided in our meeting the review committee will be elected among those who volunteered to become a committee member in our meeting. Since the formation of the review committee will be responsible for the decisions on the paper  proposals due this May, for practical purposes the review committee ought to be decided upon shortly.

nominations for the office positions and execute the election process
in April 2007.

Graduate Student Paper Award:

Our association will annually hold a “Graduate Student Paper Award”. Each year we will review the graduate student papers submitted to us.

The graduate student paper must have either appeared in that year’s American Political Science Association Annual Convention or the International Studies Association Annual Convention. A review committee will select among those submitted papers.

Criteria:

A sophisticated scholarly analysis of the case which clearly sets the problematique and the author’s contribution.

In relevance to our associational goals the paper must either be authored by a Turkish graduate student or use Turkey as a case in the paper.

The use of sophisticated methodological approaches (quantitative, qualitative/interpretative) in tackling the topic.

The paper must have either practical policy relevance or contribute to the existing scholarly literature-theoretically or empirically.

We expect that the readings and literature review ought to be up to date and that the paper makes references to the relevant body of literature that pertains to the subject matter.

Selection:

The TISA executive committee will nominate a jury of three which shall review the submissions.

Notification:

The Successful Paper will be notified in a month after the deadline of submission and will be announced on our website.

The author of the paper that is selected as the best paper of the year will receive an pre-announced amount. He/she shall have the Association’s award for the year and will most likely get his/her paper published in a leading journal in the field.
