Goals: Provide opportunities for communication among educators and researchers in order to continually share intellectual interests. Improve the research and dissemination of ideas, concepts, methods, and information in the field of International Studies. Provide incentives for graduate students to work together on topics that are of interest to them. Promote panels in prominent conventions such as ISA and American Political Science Association Annual meeting so that individual researchers can link to one another or submit their papers as a panel.
Executive Committee (Alphabetically): Feyzi Baban, Trent University Constitution: ARTICLE 1 This association shall be known as the Turkish International Studies Association. ARTICLE 2 PURPOSE 1. The Purpose of the Association is to serve the needs and enhance the capacities of scholars, practitioners having a professional interest in expanding, disseminating, and applying knowledge of interrelations among nations and peoples.
2. To achieve these ends, the Association shall actively pursue cooperative relationships with other appropriate organizations around the world. 3. The Association is educational and non-partisan. It will not support or oppose political parties or candidates. It may take positions on issues only if they are immediately and directly concerned with the purpose stated above and only within the limits that must be observed to maintain tax exemption under the revenue laws of the country in which the headquarters are located. The headquarters will be in a hospitable political science/international relations department and the location will be determined by the past-president, president and executive council. This headquarter will be the place from where the website and listserv will be managed. ARTICLE 3 MEMBERSHIP 1. The Association is committed to fostering independent, responsible scholarly inquiry by all of its members. In relation to the purposes of this association, any scholar or graduate student can become a member.
Attend, participate, and vote in future Annual Meeting of members, which shall take place during the Annual Convention of the International Studies Association. 3. At the discretion of the Governing Council, TISA will approve joint activity with cooperating organizations or institutions. Such approval should be with scholarly and professional organizations whose purposes are similar to those of TISA and where cooperation is likely to lead to meaningful, reciprocal, and ongoing activities between the respective organizations. Such organizations, for example, include International Studies Association and Turkish Political Science Association.
4. Members would have to be either scholars or graduate students in political science, international relations or related fields. The only condition is for membership is to have a scholarly interest in Turkish studies.
ARTICLE 4 ADMINISTRATION 1. The government of the Association shall consist of a President, a Vice President, the previous President, and an Executive Council of three. 2. The President will choose 1 of the 3 nominated vice-president nominees as his/her vice-president.
ARTICLE 5 THE PRESIDENT 1. The President shall serve for a term of one year who cannot be elected for more than 1 year. He/she shall assume office at the convention in which the Annual Meeting of Members takes place.
2. The President shall not engage in partisan politics and will propose programs and policies designed to advance the best interests of the Association as defined in the Article on the Purpose of the Association. The president will have to have a close familiarity with the International Studies Association.
3. Presidents shall either be scholars who hold a Ph.D. degree in the field of International Relations/Political Science or are currently Ph.D. candidates in such fields.
ARTICLE 6 VICE-PRESIDENT The vice-president is appointed by the president, and will work in close contact with the President. The vice-president and president are both responsible for managing the list-serve, web site, and contacts with the ISA and other institutions.
ARTICLE 7 THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The Committee shall consist of three. And will nominate the president and recommend 3 nominations as vice-president for the President to select. They shall observe the policies of the President and recommend policies and review those of the president.
ARTICLE 6 THE ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS 1. The Annual Meeting of Members shall be held at the Annual Convention. All members shall be entitled to participate and vote.
a. alter the agenda prepared for it; b. receive and consider reports; c. discuss any matter relevant to the purposes of the organization; d. act upon constitutional amendments initiated in accordance with Article 9.
ARTICLE 9 AMENDMENTS 1. Amendments to this constitution may be proposed by the Executive Council or by members. 2. Proposed amendments that are approved by a two-thirds vote of the Executive Council shall be voted by members of the association in the Annual Convention. TEMPORARY ARTICLE For the purpose of founding the Association, the association is established by a founding executive committee, which consists of a total of 9 professors and PhD candidates. |
