Turkish ISA Constitution

Goals:

Provide opportunities for communication among educators and researchers in order to continually share intellectual interests.

Improve the research and dissemination of ideas, concepts, methods, and information in the field of International Studies.

Provide incentives for graduate students to work together on topics that are of interest to them.

Promote panels in prominent conventions such as ISA and American Political Science Association Annual meeting so that individual researchers can link to one another or submit their papers as a panel.

Constitution :

ARTICLE 1

This association shall be known as the Turkish International Studies Association.

ARTICLE 2 PURPOSE

1. The Purpose of the Association is to serve the needs and enhance the capacities of scholars, practitioners having a professional interest in expanding, disseminating, and applying knowledge of interrelations among nations and peoples.

2. To achieve these ends, the Association shall actively pursue cooperative relationships with other appropriate organizations around the world.

3. The Association is educational and non-partisan. It will not support or oppose political parties or candidates. It may take positions on issues only if they are immediately and directly concerned with the purpose stated above and only within the limits that must be observed. The headquarters will be in a hospitable political science/international relations department and the location will be determined by the executive council. This headquarter will be the place from where the website and listserv will be managed.

ARTICLE 3 MEMBERSHIP

1. The Association is committed to fostering independent, responsible scholarly inquiry by all of its members. In relation to the purposes of this association, any scholar or graduate student can become a member.

2. Members shall be entitled to:

Attend, participate, and vote in future Annual Meeting of members, which shall take place during the Annual Convention of the International Studies Association.

3. At the discretion of the Governing Council, Turkish ISA will approve joint activity with cooperating organizations or institutions. Such approval should be with scholarly and professional organizations whose purposes are similar to those of Turkish ISA and where cooperation is likely to lead to meaningful, reciprocal, and ongoing activities between the respective organizations. Such organizations, for example, may include International Studies Association and Turkish Political Science Association.

4. Members would have to be either scholars or graduate students in political science, international relations or related fields. The only condition is for membership is to have an interest in the scholarly study of international studies.

ARTICLE 4 THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Committee shall consist of three members who hold PhD degrees in the field of international relations or political science. The committee members must have a close familiarity with the workings of the International Studies Association.

The Committee is responsible for the administration of the association. This includes appointing the panel review committee, web site maintenance, and the representation of the association.

The Committee serves a period of 5 years. The current Committee's term is expected to end at 2016.

The Executive Committee nominates three members to serve for the next term of service. 

 

ARTICLE 5 THE BI-ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS

1. The Bi-Annual Meeting of Members shall be held at the Annual Convention. 

2. The Bi-Annual Meeting of Members shall have the authority to:

a. receive and consider reports;

b. discuss any matter relevant to the purposes of the organization;

c. vote on constitutional amendments proposed by the Executive Committee.

 

ARTICLE 6 AMENDMENTS

1. Amendments to this constitution may be proposed by the Executive Council or by members.

2. Proposed amendments that are approved by a two-thirds vote of the Executive Council shall be voted by members of the association in the Annual Convention.
